One More Spoon- Outline
First described in a 2003 essay by Christine Miserandino, spoon theory has been adopted by the community of people living with a broad range of physical and mental health issues, and it's concept of using spoons as a metaphor for physical or emotional energy to try to explain the limitations, need for rationing resources & future planning when living with a disability has entered our American lexicon. In short, each of us has a limited number of spoons to get us through a day. Some days we have more, some days we have fewer. When we are out of spoons it is more difficult, or impossible, to accomplish even simple tasks.
As a survivor of domestic abuse and two chronic invisible illnesses, Vittoria knows this metaphor is far from perfect but she also knows that anyone can find themselves short on spoons and that we must give ourselves grace and support one another. In this era of social media, remote everything, and pandemic lockdowns, she found herself watching her friends struggle and wishing that she could share some of her spoons with those that have fewer.
This desire inspired the creation of the 'One More Spoon' series. The 'outline' spoon is a simple wire frame of a spoon, perfect for simply telling someone that you care about them. Please remember that this pendant is a physical reminder that you are loved, that you are valid, and yes, you can.
Because these spoons have such a special place in Vittoria's heart, Arte*Vitta will donate $15 for each pendant sold to the Women's Center of Southeast Michigan.
